Introductory Musculoskeletal Ultrasound Imaging  Course

 

Reading 21-22nd March 2009

 

This is a two day introduction to the use of ultrasound imaging in physiotherapy, and is ideal for physiotherapists with little or no previous experience of scanning. The course is biased towards practical training, with a high ratio of tutors and scanners, and is suitable for those who wish to use ultrasound for assessment of muscle function and biofeedback (such as Transverse abdominus), as well as those who require an introduction to more complex tasks such as assessment of joints, tendons and muscle injuries.

 

The subjects covered include

Physics of ultrasound

Safety and training isssues

Basic scanning technique

Image optimisation

Imaging of musculoskeletal structures

Assessment of muscle function and biofeedback for spinal stabilisers.

Examination of the shoulder, knee and ankle joints

Learning outcomes

Awareness of the basic technology of ultrasound imaging

Knowledge and practical experience of the safe use of ultrasound.

Able to use ultrasound imaging for assessment of muscle function.

Basic knowledge required to begin developing more advanced musculoskeletal scanning skills.

Understanding of the safety issues.
